المتأسلمين al-Muta'slmeen instead of الاسلاميون or al-IslamiyuunReader comment on item: Finally Getting Serious about Identifying Islamists? Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), May 24, 2016 at 18:23 Dr Pipes I have great difficulty with the word Islamist as you shall see Shadi Hamid of Qatra of the Qatar supported the Brookings provides a long and convoluted definition But the truth is an Islamist is a Muslim period who happens to be a Jihadist. Following the end of the MB era in Egypt in 2013 a term was coined by Egyptians to describe these jihadists and it is المتأسلمين or al-Muta'slmeen or those that pretend to be Muslim Reason? Most Muslims do not plan to be jihadists and the word الاسلاميون al-Islamiyuun or Islamists can be understood as Muslims all Muslims that is Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Daniel Pipes replies: Well, you agree with me that an Islamist is a specific subset of Muslim: "an Islamist is a Muslim period who happens to be a Jihadist". Then the lesser issue is how to define that specific subset of Muslims. I disagree with your definition but that's secondary to the fact that we agree on the larger point.
