re Anti-Islamism will prevailReader comment on item: Two Opposing Views of the Islamist Threat Submitted by John Doba (United States), Aug 27, 2016 at 08:07 Sure hope you're right---the problem is, the ignorantly blind pro-Islamism of the elites is both near-fanatical, and almost unanswerable: Merkel makes a unilateral command decision to flood Europe, &c. As for the people? Sorry---shut up and get back to work, and oh by the way your taxes are going up. Meanwhile here in the USA, elite opinion, including in both political parties, is overwhelmingly in favor of continued Muslim immigration---just why we need immigrants who have little or nothing to offer us economically or culturally (that's the charitable interpretation), is virtually an unthinkable question; to raise it brings instant charges of Islamophobic bigotry. The Enemy effectively controls the mass media and cultural organs---not universally, but overwhelmingly. And thus we risk reaching the demographic tipping point, as France has done---they've largely given up, and are now resigned to their dhimmified destiny, of beheaded priests and mass atrocities. And so Fitzgerald is right---it IS a sign of surrender, by the intellectuals. Only if the public opinion you laud finds key political representation will the danger be contained. For example, Canada will go, in the years ahead---they elected a dimwit, pro-Islam socialist and are upping their Muslim population steadily now. National dhimmification is sure to follow; it may take a few years but the trend lines are certain, unless the invasion is halted. And the same holds true for us. Will we halt the invasion? At the rate we're going and given the course we're on, I'm not hopeful. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
