Sometimes a Cigar is just a Cigar...Reader comment on item: Two Opposing Views of the Islamist Threat Submitted by Rich Mc (United States), Aug 27, 2016 at 23:28 Dr. Pipes is correct to point to, and implicitly praise the strong majority of German people who reject the absurd notions and educational recommendations of naïve academics such as Thomas Strothotte. However, it is another matter to conclude that the results of ad hoc, popular polling on single issues (such as mandating children learning Arabic) are indicative of major impending policy or cultural change. Rather than Dr. Pipes' view of a "...diminishing elite appeasement faction" I find it far more plausible that Progressive German bureaucracies, both educational and political (at both national & local levels) are firmly entrenched, and will take at least a generation to turn round. Drilling down, any Country accepting over a million Islamic refugees annually will assuredly be confronted with an overwhelming incursion of Islamism resulting from this policy, regardless of the incremental desires the mainstay population's polling happens to reflect. The acid test will be whether key, conspicuously failed German policies such as accepting unvetted Syrian (& other Islamic) Refugees are stopped dead in their tracks. Don't hold your breath. Voting Chancellor Angela Merkel out of office, perhaps to be succeeded by Frauke Petry of the AfD Party, would clearly be a step in the right direction. Again, don't hold your breath.
