Nobody trusts anyoneReader comment on item: NATO's Turkey Challenge Submitted by Michael S (United States), Apr 27, 2018 at 17:56 Hi, Tovey I agree with your conclusion, that Turkey should be considered a threat to NATO. I don't know if there are many in our government, who do not think so. At the same time, some prefer to treat Turkey and kindred countries as "frenemies". We still use the air base at Incirlik, but it is not always open to us. Besides Turkey, we have other "allies" of limited reliability, such as Qatar, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The Russians also have frenemies such as Turkey, Egypt, Libya, India and Vietnam. "Shared values", "shared ideologies", etc. seem to have little bearing on whether or not an "ally" can be trusted. Hitler made apact with Stalin, then broke it. The US turned on Taiwan in the 1970s, so that China would turn on the USSR. To make a long story short, nobody really trusts anyone in politics, religion or business. In the meantime, wherever there seems to be an opportunity for advantage, any or all of us appear to be friends. Apart from all this, I expect Turkey to ally with Iran, E. Libya and Sudan, and attack Israel, as per Ezek 38-39, not too far in the future -- perhaps some months, perhaps a few years. It seems the imminent Iranian/ Hizbullah attack will happen first.
