Nationalist (Zionist) Irredentism & the Outside-In Stategy - not Victory over PalestiniansReader comment on item: Tectonic Shifts in Attitudes toward Israel Submitted by Robert (United States), Jan 4, 2022 at 14:11 Dear Dr. Daniel Pipes, You have done a great job in this Article in identifying the so-called Tectonic Shift(s) among the Arab & "Left" adversaries of Israel. However, I do not agree (as I argue elsewhere on you MEF) that Victory (over the Palestinians) is the right Strategic approach. I wish to remind you, and your readers, that you once had a different Strategy, a so of TOP-DOWN or IN-OUT Strategy. Also, you made a single reference to the Antisemitism involved (in Anti-Israel, Anti-Zionism). I believe that Anti-Semitism is less visible and more prevalent than is has been since the the Holocaust; in that regard, you are generous by pointing your finger at the Left instead of the Democratic Party and the United Nations Fora. I call these barely visible or neglect Fissures by the Simple Term: "Antisemitism." And here is a partial vocabulary on that matter or issue. But before that List, I wish to make some conceptual observations. The "neighbors" of Israel have mostly a Double identity connoted by two (2) distinct words; Israelis, on the other hand have only one (1). In particular, the distinction identifies the People (Nation) and the Faith (Religion). More particularly, the Neighbors are Arabs (Nation & Nationality); they are mostly Arabs, and they are Muslim (their Faith is Islam. However, the word "Jew" is ambiguous because it connotes both the People or Nation as well as the Faith or the Religion. More confusing is the fact that Israeli connotes Citizenship. However, in more recent times, the Knesset (Parliament of Israel) passed a law declaring Israel to be a Jewish State. That means, more or last, at least, that Israel is the Home of the Jewish People. This is consistent with Zionism, which was and remains a Secular Ideology of the Jewish People or Nation. And at the most extreme, Judaism is the National Religion of the Jewish People in Israel; it does not mean that Other Religions are not protected or tolerated in Israel. And even more complicated is the fact that the Torah, what Christian retain in their Bible is the Old Testament (Part One, so to speak). And the Torah, in the broad or narrow sense is the Mythical Secular History of the Jewish People, the People who have lived outside their Homeland for 2,000 years in an "Apartheid" condition, having been Ethnically Cleaned by the Roman Empire out of Judah, the last Jewish state within the Roman Empire. Now comes the fact of the recently deceased South African "Martin Luther" and "Martin Luther, Jr.", namely BISHOP TUTU. It is he who imposed the term Apartheid upon the Jewish People within Israel aka Palestine. And it is the Christian USA former President, Jimmy Carter who put "Apartheid" in the title of his "Antisemitic" book against the Jews in Israel/Palestine. So what are the "Palestinians"? They are the mostly Arabs Muslim and Christians who replaced the Jews who COLONIZED Israel/Palestine after it was Ethnically Cleaned of Jews; and Apartheid was imposed upon the Jews for two Thousand Years (2,000) by keeping Jews in Ghettos. These Ghettos were eventually replaced by Concentration Camps and Extermination Camps by the Nazis under Hitler in the Third Reich and its Conquered countries which only ended in 1945 - Hitler having mere "not finished his 6,000,000 Job for the rest of the Anti-Semitic World. President Roosevelt (the 2nd) REFUSED to bomb the Railroads which forcefully was delivering Jews for "Settlement in the East" - a NAZI Euphemism for Extermination Gas Chambers. This all happened even though the 1917 Balfour Declaration was Adopted by the British Empire during WWI (1914-1918). In the interim, when Peace was achieved, the League of Nations (of which the USA was not a part) granted the British Empire the Mandate for Palestine during 1921-1923. And Article 25 was also adopted whereby East Palestine (later Transjordan aka Jordan) was to remain 100% "Clean of Jews" or "Jewish Apartheid" - meaning 100% no Jews in Jordan. Ironically, before, up to, and during the Holocaust, Jews had a place to flee as Refugees. But it is a FACT that the British Mandate authorities refused to grant Jews entry to the remaining territories under their Palestine Mandate. In other words, the British knew and allowed Hitler to exterminated Jews in the Extermination ("refugee") Camps with their Remains Being Burnt in special Ovens i9mmediately upon removal from the Gas Chambers; yet "no on"e sees this as ETHNIC CLEANSING. Many who managed to avoid this Catastrophe wound up in "Palestine" Illegally (in violation of the British Authorities) as "COLONIZES". During this 6,000,000 NAZI German extermination one ONE COUNTRY in the World granted Jews a Visa for Refuge (Refugee Status) - namely, the Dominican Republic under its Dictator, Rafael Trujillo. So, you are being extremely generous when you cite the Left as the adversary of Israel and give so little weight to the Antisemitism (which you mention one) well disguised as mere anti-Israel or anti-Zionism. I will not go into details, as I suggest I would above. But I will simply state that the Enemies of Israel are all the countries, at least 125 of the 193 member states of the UN, who voted against Israel in resolutions last month (December). Your "Victory" term does not seem adequate because, for one, you are not suggesting War. But it's also hard for me to find the adequate language. How is Israel to prevail over these 125 countries in the UN? Any words or language or sentence I imagine using you will come with the retort: "Strategy," not "Advocacy," is what you do in the MEF. And Diplomacy, Economic Strategies, Financing, Banking, Technology, do not seem to fall under your stress on embodied in the Concept of Victory. Anyone who is Religious might argue that the Palestinian Cause was created by Providence to keep Jews on their toes to develop Israel, and its Irredentist "Natural" ambitions in the Territories of Palestine. So is the case with the Teutonic Fissure among the Palestinians in Gaza under Hamas and those in the West Bank under the PA under the helm of Abbas; accordingly, the last thing to do is to intervene in the Palestine Split among themselves; the longer they fight among themselves the further will the so-called Two (2) State Solution will be possible. Perhaps some sort of a Confederation or Union will one day be made possible. After all, 21% Arabs are citizens of Israel. Why are they prohibited from building Second Homes in the West Bank or Gaza? Perhaps it is Providence which has changed the Battlefield to exclude the areas where the Palestinians reside? And as UN recognized Refugees they are a very small minority compared to all the other current refugees, especially in the context of the Arab Spring. Now the Arab and Muslim Refugees are the consequence of other Arab and Muslim Protagonists - not Israel. Perhaps it is also Providence (Deist view) which is ultimately responsible for the current composition of the Israeli ruling Government. And it is ironic that a Islamist [Israeli Muslim Brotherhood ] Muslim (a different [Mamoud] Abbas) is is a part of this Government of Israel; he claims that Israel was born as a Jewish State and so it will remain - and he wants the economic betterment of Israel's Arab citizens. In the context of a Military Victory in the Israeli Civil War since 1948, this is an incredible development. So the issue is Peace, not Victory. And Peace is accomplished with a Peace Treaty among the Warring States. The 125 countries and not all at Peace with Israel. How is Israel to make Peace with them is the Question. On the other hand, the Palestinians are engaged at best in their continuous Civil War within Greater Palestine, which includes the Territories Liberate (not Occupied) by Israel from Egypt and Jordan. So this involves an Internal Affair - the way the Chines view their claim of Taiwan or Tibet, or the way Cyrus, and most of the World views Northern Cyprus. Under these circumstances; so let the Palestinian continue to loose their opportunities to loose opportunities. Accordingly please change back your Strategy away from Victory over the Palestinians, and get back to your pre-Victory Strategy; you were right the first time, in my view.
