Defeat of Islamist is on the Horizon?Reader comment on item: Israel's Partial Victory Submitted by Robert (United States), Nov 16, 2022 at 04:24 Dear Dr. Daniel Pipes, Congratulations on another informative narrative historically grounded and written from the perspective of the Victor, as history is usually written. I just wish to elaborate at how this dynamic might unfold. In keeping to your analysis it appears to me that the enemy of Israel now is not the Palestinians but the Islamism (I put the Left aside for this commentary). As you point out above the Islamist are currently rooted in Turkey and Gaza (and perhaps one day Egypt). And now the Islamist of Gaza, Hamas, have taken office in Islamist Turkey under Erdogan. But Erdogan is an Autocrat, and when he falls or dies, Turkey may revert to its secular status that it had under Ataturk. Similarly, Iran, another kind of Islamist state (Shia rather than Sunni) is also ruled by an Autocrat, an Ayatollah, who is an Octogenarian; and it seems that there is a Women's Revolution in Iran which demands his downfall immediately. So there is a likelihood that Islamist, an enemy of all non-Islamist Muslim states is the common enemy of Arab states. So when Islamist falls, Israel will be even closer to Victory. We at least can hope that this function has a limit. But it may be that the Palestinians will like the Kurds, a stateless people for quite a while at least; on the other hand, if Palestinians are just Arabs, the may vanish as a cohort by absorption by other Arab states Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
