2022 11-17 "Netanyahu, Erdogan declare 'new era' in Israel-Turkey relations" - LAHAV HARKOVReader comment on item: Israel's Partial Victory Submitted by Robert (United States), Nov 17, 2022 at 09:59 Dear Dr. Daniel Pipes, Perhaps you were too pessimistic regarding Turkish relations with Israel. It seems to me that Turkey's PM Erdogan has finally realized that good relations with Israel far out way bad ones. I think one needs to look at all the enemies that Erdogan has created in the last decade, and now he has his balancing act between Russia and the European Union. And unlike Putin, who will not adopt, Erdogan now sees a very strong image of reality - he needs to be on good terms with Israel. One example involves the Israeli tourist who flock to Turkey and are boosting its flaying economy. And, for another example, Bibi just offered his condolences to the families that experienced a terrorist act in Turkey, and Bibi offered to help Turkey fight "terrorism." But there's more, which I omit at this moment. "Netanyahu, Erdogan declare 'new era' in Israel-Turkey relations" "The Netanyahu-Erdogan call follows efforts of the departing government to improve relations between Jerusalem and Ankara, following Turkish overtures." https://www.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-722654

Daniel Pipes replies: As I put it in an interview published today, Erdoğan's moves are "the purest of tactics, reflecting Erdoğan's needs at a time of weakness. His hostility toward Israel remains firmly in place, fueled by an Islamist worldview." Reader comments (54) on this item |
