Allonehhob you hit the mark!Reader comment on item: Converts to Terrorism Submitted by John Giannasca (Australia), Dec 7, 2005 at 16:31 Your comments hit the mark. Thank you. After reading them I hugged my daughter a little harder and longer, did the same to my other children then did something this morning I have never done. I talked quietly, calmly and non judgementally with my daughter in an attempt to understand what she is thinking and why. With the help of this site I was able to put my thoughts into perspective and present them to her in a non hysterical way. I was only able to do this by planning the process and anticipating the conversation.Previous attempts got a little (lot) heated. By focusing in the issues you do not become distracted by emotion. It helped set the sceen for future converstaions. At least by engaging her and having a plan I am not excluded from her life. By setting rules of converation (with myself at least) I can keep the dialog going. Her happiness is my only concern. Convincing myself that she has made decisions for the right reasons will help me sleep at night. I truly believe that she hasnt been honest with herself. I believe that she has succumbed to the big fish in the small pond syndrome. Most converts I believe are looking to be accepted. Muslims love converts so that they can parade them as obvious examples of the superiority of their religion over others. They love to quote the statistics that show Islam has a growth rate higher than christianity. I have my own spin on this. In a reigime of fear, who is able to leave. In a reigime where to marry a muslim you have to become one, conversion numbers will reflect this. Muslims are keeping stats better than pro football comentators. I do believe that our children are looking for something that has been missing from their lives. If converion to Islam means they are now noticed, that says more about us than it does about them. Accepting conversion on religious grounds is a must for all of us. Accepting conversion on idealogical grounds is a perversion. Accepting conversion because its a safe social option is just plain sad. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
