When you place rational reasoning and free thinking ahead of religion the country prospers materially at the least. However, the organised religion does suffer.The problem with (if you can call it so) the human mind is that one can not fit it in to the strait jacket of a religious thought process.The religious thought process is limited by the kinowledge available at the time of revelation.

However the teachings ( of any religion for that matter) are unfortunately neither eternal nor complete. Not every bit of teaching is applicable for today. One can go on arguing about the truth and the whole truth etc. But when the writings in the scriptures are scrutinised by some one who does not necessarily believe in it, and is so likely to be unbiased (or biased depending on your belief)the truth comes out glaringly.for eg: camels urine in the morning as a treatment for many ailments, women are inferior to men, or so and so lived for 975 years and begat a son and died and so and so lived 908 years begot a son and died etc.To believe that the sun prostrates to allah and hides under his crown in a muddy water and takes allahs permission in the morning to come out is nothing but stupidity.To believe that the earth is the centre and sun goes round the earth and that the meteorites are the arrows fired by angels to shoo away shaitans etc and that the earth is flat and the mountains are nailed to earth to prevent the earth shaking etc only shows the lack of any intelligence.

When you place reasoning ahead of religion, and freethinking is not inhibited, the country takes rapid strides forwards. Its only natural that one would become tolerant and understanding.

I have given examples as to why one has to put freethinking and rational reasoning ahead of religion.I am glad that there are any number of free thinking Americans who love freedom and love their free thinking, uninhibited by the religious teachings.thats the beauty of Christ's Idea.

When you place religion ahead of rational thinking and reasoning you have intolerance and ignorance.This is the problem with muslims and Islam.Islam prohibits free thinking.The ignorant followers say that there is nothing worth thinking beyond the book.The knowledge they place ahead of the rational ideas is alluded to above.This will certainly promote ignorance and intolerance.
You can not scare muslims with death.They are ordained by allah to fight for Allah and in the process they kill or get killed they go in to the arms of 72 houries and they will have 28 boys!

The only way forward is to get the women in Islam fight for their rights that has been denied by Allah. Allah says women are inferior compared to men and allah's apostle says hell is full of women and there are any number of Hadiths to show how women are ill treated in Islam.

Get the women on your side and we can win this terrorist onslaught.
