No question that you are right about congress and Israel. And I am and will always be a strong supporter of Israel. More so than many Israelis, including Avigdor Lieberman.

But my daughter was born with a medical condition that has precluded her from obtaining medical insurance in this mean-spirited country. My Jewish/Zionist neighbor across the street has a son with a different "pre-existing condition" who similarly can't get medical insurance. The Democrats, and they alone, have rectiified that. The health bill pass by congress is, with all its flaws, the only one passed since lyndon johnson passed Medicare, and these two are the only laws to help people with medical suffering and premature death in all of American history. there will never be another such law in my lifetime or in my children's lifetimes. My daughter will be able to obtain affordable health care, thanks solely to the democratic congress.

Israel has survived the depradations of the carter years and the george herbert walker years, and, difficult as things are for Israel internationally [and many Israelis are as anti-Israel as you say the Democrats are], Israel will survive this congressional election. But my daughter and my neighbor's son and millions of other suffering Americans will not survive if the fanatic right-wing republicans whom you so fancy win control of congress. They are a death threat to my family. They are my enemy.

Therefore, I will hold my nose as a Jew and vote straight Democratic. And distance myself from the other Orthodox Jews in my neighborhood who are so thoughtlessly and small-mindedly right-wing.
