Support for Israel Should be Unified - There Will Be No Democrats or Republicans in Israel's Kingdom.Reader comment on item: Israel and Congressional Democrats Submitted by M. Tovey (United States), Nov 5, 2010 at 12:36 Setting aside for the moment that anyone that has a limited appreciation for the political process that is the American Constitutional institution should be careful in making observations of something not completely understood, let us examine an observation made from abroad and find the value that may be taken from it. To be sure, the political polemics that has permeated American foreign policy has brought about questionable circumstances as it relates to many aspects of American relations with nations abroad, as well as affecting the perceptions of the constituency within. But in the middle of it all, there is the dilemma of one of the most critical aspects of America's diplomacy; that of how this country should relate to Israel. The real problem is that relations with Israel has been made political, instead of being the one issue that should not polarize this country, but should be a source of consolidated intent and deliberate resolve to protect Israel. Now an underlying engine of the circumstances that complicates America's involvement in world affairs and the affairs of Israel in particular is the economic factor: energy sources are a primary focal point for the American economy, if all the vehicles pumping $3.00/gal for fuel are any indicator. Middle East oil is one of the major suppliers of that engine, so politics are driven to protect it. So there is political power in managing the supplies of that power, which in that region much is under the control of political agencies hostile to Israel. Now this is nothing mind-shattering to learn; nor is there new revelation that American politics is so powerfully influenced by this 'status quo.' We find then, in the polemics of American politics, that this source of power translates to the politicians as one of the means to achieve respective party control of the governmental process, though through differing ideologies. In contradiction to that, political ideological disparity is used to keep a unified voice from forming the one opinion much of the world evidently does not desire to see, full support of a unified and secure Israel. Now it used to mean that the American Democratic party was less likely to support Israel in its struggles against neighboring antagonists and the Republicans were more inclined to provide Israel support in their struggles to survive. With the promoting of the 'Road Map to Peace,' or whatever the current variant may be called, dividing Israel to salve the festering intentions of Israel's enemies is the political means to achieve what they have not been able to do by force. The point is that it has not mattered for twenty years if the Democrats or the Republicans were in control, for the political differences of the American Parties have lessened where it concerns the circumstances involving the alleged peace process. But be careful to observe also, that whether politically controlled by the Democrats or the Republicans, faltering in the resolve to protect Israel will be the undoing of this nation, or any other nation for that matter; for Israel's place in the world is protected, not by political might, nor by the armies of a hundred nations, but by the power of Israel Sovereign. A vote by the Democrats or the Republicans will not matter in Israel's future Kingdom. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
