We are not discussing the same issueReader comment on item: Israel and Congressional Democrats Submitted by Lars Nielsen (Denmark), Nov 16, 2010 at 15:08 Dear Mr Tovey I originally commented mr. Pipes for stating, that republicans are better friends of Israel as democrats. Mr Pipes argued, republicans are the best friends, because they are most sympathetic to Israel, and I argued, that democrats are the better friends, because they are more concerned with the interests of USA. You then commented, that Israel has a divine right to exist. I replied, that this right depends on religious arguments, which are not shared by everyone. I then went on to argue, that although UN has voted, that Israel has a right to exist, there is no common agreement on its boarders or how to deal with the palestinian refugees. There must therefore be found a common solutions to these problems, on which all parties concerned will agree. I also pointed out, that it is not in the interest of USA to work such a solution, because it will be easier for USA to dominate the Middle East , if the countries there disagree. This is, what I mean by divide and rule. You now answer, that it is not possible to work out a political solution, that will satisfy all parties, and I agree. There will only be peace between Israel and its enemies, if either - one of the parties eliminate the other, or - both parties are so battered, that they are willing to compromise to achieve peace I therefore strongly disagree with your opinion, that USA might establish peace through moral leadership, because no leadership is possible, if people are not willing to listen At last, You return to your argument, that God will decide the fate of Israel. I agree on that, but I disagree, when You state, that God will maintain Israel. Israel has not existed as a state in nearly 1800 years, because God decided so, and he may decide so for another 1800 years. That is not for us to say, and therefore, your argument is in fact blasphemy, because it is not for us to decide, what God shall do.
