I missed Your argumentReader comment on item: Israel and Congressional Democrats Submitted by Lars Nielsen (Denmark), Nov 9, 2010 at 17:44 Dear M Tovey I understand, that You are a firm supporter of Israel, and I understand, that You feel, that all countries should support Israel. You don't give a clear argument for this opinion, but I believe, that You are of the opinion, that Israel has a godgiven right to the land, that God has promised the jews. I respect your opinion, and You are of course right, that if this is the will of God, everybody should obey it. But if this is so, there is no reason to discuss, what republicans or democrats or I think about Israel. If, however, You will allow me to mention it, You have not presented any proof of your conviction. Therefore You must understand, that to me and most other people in the world, the israeli question is a political question. If we then ask, whether Israel has a right to exist, the answer is of course Yes, because so was decided by the UN. But what borders, Israel should have, is another matter. Because the borders decided by the UN, when Israel was established, are now irrelevant, and no other legitimate borders have been established. Also the Palestinian State, which UN also decided to establish, has never come into existence, and the question of the palestinian refugees has never been solved. As long as these matters are not solved, Israel will have no peace. The question is now. Should USA help solve this problem and how. My answer is no. It is not in the interest of USA to solve this or other Middle East problems. The true interest of USA is to dominate the region through the old roman method of "Divide et Impera", divide and rule. In this game, Israel is only a little pawn, which may be sacrificed by USA, if necessary to maintain the balance of power in the region. Of course such action would be unpleasant to the US administration, as Israel has many american supporters. But in the end, I do´nt believe, that the majority of american voters will support Israel indefinitely, regardless of the costs USA would have to pay. Therefore I believe, it is better for Israel, if the USA is governed by people, which act in the best interest of the american people, in stead of people promising unlimited support to Israel. For the latter are not trustworthy. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
