Not so certain

I am pleased that Mr. Pipes is more optimistic than I. His study of Islam is far greater and more thorough than mine.

Maybe my view is simplistic. My background is conflict and warfare. I see Islam as having been designed as a form of government that does not recognize any other. (The modern nation-state did not evolve until many centuries after Islam was founded) Islam is constantly challenging the authority of the modern nation-state. ANY and ALL of them. After all, what religions do we know of are still fielding an army? What 'Catholic Lands' or 'waters' are defended by the Pope? What priests are forming and leading their own combat units? I can't think of many better reasons to wage war. And this is only one of the major issues.

I tend to agree with Ron Thompson in that the U.S. is not YET seeing many of the problems that Islam presents in Europe. Hey, I can be all wrong, just like anyone else. This is why I am pleased that Mr. Pipes feels differently. This does give me hope that we can win without the war becoming much, much larger.
