What are our goals, what are we FORReader comment on item: "You can't fight Islamism with ideas coming out of Europe" Submitted by Demsci (Netherlands), Dec 4, 2010 at 20:47 Great article, very interesting to see the difference in opinion between Daniel Pipes and Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Geert Wilders, very familiar both to me, as I live in Holland. What was so gratifying for me about what Daniel Pipes said in this article was that there should be some kind of alternative for Islamism, something citizens of Democratic Nations could be FOR. I believe Ayaan wants to promote the ultimate alternative for Islam in her and my view; the whole set of freedom- and democracy-principles we know and have constitutionalized in Democratic Nations, following Enlightenment. That should not be considered as a threat to Islam and Muslims in the sense that that would guarantee them equal rights as far as possible. But it would be a threat to Islam and Muslims when the only way they in the long run can really exist when in power over the other faiths/ life-convictions and their followers. If Daniel Pipes is right then I envision ISLAMID (Islam In Democracy) as alternative for ISLAMAS (ISLAM As Supreme). And I do not think we have to wait for Muslims to start Islamid. By now, we can say that "old Islam" is known in its texts and influential comments, which are finite and studyable and well studied by Critics. And Islams practices, so divers, are also well known to critics. And now some politicians may rightly assert that Islam is either really anti-democratic and anti-constitutional (for Democratic Nations) or otherwise just hopeless incompetently vague, much too vulnerable to totalitarian misunderstanding and misuse. So reprehensible to follow as it stands now. Only Islamid, which can be negotiated about in it's contents may remain acceptable to Islamwise citizens of Democratic Nations. And Islamid should be in favor of the Democratic set of laws and valuable in all currently Islamic Nations also. If Muslims do not eventually become part of Islamid, then 2 sorts of countries, among others, should be declared; Democratic and Islamic-theocratic ones. And citizens should be reguired and checked to live in the country that fits their loyalty best and not that of their greatest enemy or at least opponent.
