While Dr. Pipes has stated optimistically that anti-U.S., Israel or Great Britain conspiracy theories are largely absent from street protests in Middle Eastern capitals, I would remind him that when CBS anchor Lara Logan was sexually assaulted in Cairo, onlookers were chanting "Jew! Jew!" Even if one dismisses the New York Post's reporting as sensational, one need only look at photos of crudely drawn signs of Mubarak as a vampire with a Jewish star on his forehead, or consider stories of news crews from other countries who also were physicaly attacked and accused of being Jews. What drives these allegations if not Islamist influence or anti-West conspiracy theories.
