Submitted by Peter Herz (United States), Jun 23, 2011 at 14:40 I hope you're right, but I suspect that these uprisings in the Arab world are just another change of dictators and oligarchs. I'll be happy if I'm wrong about this, but I think that history is pretty clear about how the high hopes ushered in by Nasser were dashed back in the 1950's, that Qaddafi's promise of greater Arab dignity through the ditching of King Idris didn't pan out either. I suspect the so-called "Arab Spring" is just the prelude to a new set of strongmen who will once again lead the Arab nations into a disastrous confrontation with Israel while leaving the structural problems of Arab societies and self-destructive mindsets in place.
