Why so much against Turkey?Reader comment on item: Goodbye Ankara Submitted by li lr (United Kingdom), Sep 9, 2011 at 19:15 I read your articles with great interest ... Why do you implicate that Turks should feel privileged being associated with Israel? What is the real benefit to Turks other than any other nation? Which nation with a deep history has not got dirty laundry in their closet,in Modern times since 1930s in particular Western European including US, right upto 1970s? France: Against Jews, North Africa and Turkey and in particular what they did to Algerians? Germans lets say no more it is well published. Russians, again lets not even go there. Karl Marx, F Engel will be deeply upset to say the least. British well let some people look it up to dig some dirt. I am sure you wont spent too much time. US, we all know the current situation but again, worldwide and South America not quite ethnic cleansing type though. More of a selfish capitalist and racist until 1970s, fighter against communist. Sponsor of Mujahhidin against Russian. Italians again Africa, Jews? Spain, against its own people! and yes Turkey, yes modern Turkey, not Ottoman Turks. Human rights but other than that, None, other than population exchange with Greeks. All equal as long as you say I am Turkish and much inward migration from Balkans and many emigrants to Europe as cheap labour. Yes poverty was ripe, many political games by Russian proxy states like Syria, Bulgaria, Armenia and others. Cyprus and Greece with My enemies enemy is my friend policies. Iran with its extra Islam export to Turkey. Arabs, yes they can buy anything with their Petro Dollars. Turks being ripped off at state level in the name of investment by all developed nations companies and this is being reflected in public mood. "We would invest but no one else can in the next 25 years" policies. Application to EU has been dragging on for many years only with trade! Even the newly independent Turkic states shun Turkey in favour of British, US and other companies in lucrative oil and gas contracts. So Turkey can not look west, nor east nor South nor North. Friend for Turkey, Israel? Yes mutual benefit to fight terrorists, long historical connection some were even born in Turkey, large market for Israel and neither eat Pork and more. Then the flotila incident. A few years back since Netanyahu government things started to cool. Politics Globally shifting right and In Turkey, to Turkish religious right. Cornered, no direction to go, current leadership other than religious right is showing no sign of positive sign to take Turkey to a right direction. Perhaps you internet commentators bashing Turkey lead the way, perhaps with some inspiration from mythical Ergenekon where grey Wolf shows the way to lost Turks in the mountains. With flotila Turks saw a different face of Israel. As two nations co-operated at every level, they Turks would triple checks arms before the ship sail with many different nationalities on a piece mission for humanity nothing else. Just because they have a long history with its rights and wrongs it does not exclude Turks to be humanitarian in Aristotle definition. Humanitarian nations are not just Europeans. Because it was Turks, Israeli Army with their orders did not do things right if they had any intention of evading confrontation. They shot Turks, only Turks from behind at several times point-blank range, shoot to kill like animals. Is this the fruit of friendship of nations cooperating at all levels? Then fabricating evidence including IDFs use of "go back to Auschwitz" term for political gain? Then treatment of all people like POW as they were being moved around. Well then endless press conferences with Israel and no formal apology on anything they have done wrong. How right-wing, it was the way Israel handled, Turks were something everyone look down like they usually in the occupied territories, very anti Muslim. Even left-wing Israelites critical of this out of touch The question is whoever the Turkish prime minister might be, how do you explain to Turkish nation the death of 9 Turkish citizens in this manner? Turks and Israel needs each other like many other nations. They have a long history and understanding. Why surrender all the years built up friendship and trade and mutual benefit other than right-wing leniency and superiority? I think it takes 2 to tango as the saying goes.. Submitting....
