Goodbye Ankara ! Good morning Athens!Reader comment on item: Goodbye Ankara Submitted by Ianus (Poland), Sep 12, 2011 at 11:56 If somebody asked me "What discredits Israel most in your eyes", I would hesitate no moment to say " Israel's unholy alliance with the Turks, its military deals with them and its outrageous moral support on the world arena for the Turkish denials of the genocides committed by them against the Armenians, the Greeks and the Assyrians. There is nothing more disgusting and cynical than a victim of genocide siding with the perpetrator of a genocide at the expense of another victim of genocide". Now that at last this unholy alliance seems to be coming to an end I take comfort in the thought that Israel will remember what moral foundations it has been built on and what values it is supposed to defend and fight against before it does another madness like supporting the Turk. I see some signs of a belated sobering of Israel's policy. Its relations with Greece have improved a lot and hopefully will lead to an close and cordial alliance against the common Turkish enemy of civilization with his aggressive neo-Ottoman mentality, his contempt for the infidels, his behavior of a thug and his Pan-Turkist supremacist dreams. Hopefully, also Armenia and maybe Bulgaria will benefit from this political sobering, although I am not sure with whom America will side in this conflict. Interestingly enough, this alliance in the making has already borne important results. The so called "Freedom" Flotilla II that tried to slip through Greek territorial waters on its way to Gaza was intercepted by the Greek authorities and the pro-Palestinian "activists" either returned voluntarily home or were arrested. Instead Greece offered to send any humanitarian aid to Gaza on its own ships which was greeted by Israel and the United Nations and found unacceptable the Flotilla "activists" who responded by occupying the Spanish embassy in Athens. Well, such small gestures and actions of good will and understanding look very promising and should multiply. The Turks are very aggressive and offensive if and only if only they meet a weak and isolated enemy. They will sing a different song when they realize it is not the enemy they hate but it is them - the Turks , the would-be masters of the Pan-Turkic Empire, the would-be members of the EU - who are weak, encircled and vulnerable despite all their boasts and the foam at their mouth to the contrary.
