action requiredReader comment on item: Why I Am Not Writing About Iran Submitted by myth (Germany), Mar 22, 2012 at 05:41 stanislaus, action is required now that deterrence does not work and we do not believe in it. I advocate US military action for Israeli action would appear to be more of a weakness on Israel's side. That weakness being the visible loss of US support in the first place. Economic sanctions do not stop the Iranian programme, they would win time for Iran. At this point in time I regard them as useless. Even worse, sanctions expose a divided West. Even the "diplomatic expert wizard" needs to have something spicy to deal to the Iranians. Power is what they want. Thousands of years of persian civilization is what they feel elevates them to the role of protectors of the arab-muslim world. Do we want to give them more power, do we want to accept that narrative of persian exceptionalism? Do the countries of the regions want any of this?
