Hello Stanley BReader comment on item: Why I Am Not Writing About Iran Submitted by There is NO Santa Claus (United States), Mar 26, 2012 at 22:28 Thank you for your response. Feel free to disagree. Dr. Pipes disagrees with my thesis too. All I know is that the Japanese could not have successfully attacked Pearl Harbor if they had talked about it publicly for years preceding the attack. In case you haven't noticed, the Israelis really don't talk about attacking Iran. Most of the stuff you hear in the news media is speculation and outright lies. It's the American politicians and news media that are making news out of nothing. The problem is that the Iranians think the American news media is like theirs: strictly controlled by the government. Or, as Wolf Blitzer once told me: "A flag officer whose name I won't mention called me within 24 hours of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. .... He told me: "Wolf, you don't understand! When the Iraqis see you standing with the American flag and the White House in the background saying 'Pentagon spokesmen say there is no planned response to the invasion at this time', they think that's the official policy of the U.S. government." Your response is fine. I'm just not convinced that all this media hype and political sabre-rattling on the U.S. campaign trail is serving any useful purpose. In my view, this behavior reduces the chances of success should the Israelis and/or Americans launch a military operation to set back Iran's nuclear weapons program. The consensus that Iran will not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons has been established. That is a strong statement of national policy by the U.S. I'm not sure much more needs to be said.
