Another Thought

There is a school of thinking that suggests that these violent attacks, in addition to the immediate terror effect, hope to provoke indiscriminate reprisals against Muslim minority populations. Driving a wedge between them and the countries in which they reside. The purpose being to marginalize moderate Muslim actors and create fertile ground for the recruitment of more terrorists (esp the so called "lone wolves.")

There is a needle that needs to be threaded here. Terrorists need to be uprooted and smashed; and their enablers marginalized. While at the same time, moderate elelments, those with an eye towards the future and not the medieval past, need to be strengthened and encouraged. At the end of the the day it is these moderates who must reform Islam.
