The Speech Obama Should Have GivenReader comment on item: Assessing Obama's Mosque Speech on Islam Submitted by Dave (United States), Feb 8, 2016 at 20:14 My fellow Muslim-Americans, I want to talk to you frankly about how things stand right now with Islam and the American public. The great majority of Americans are decent people; only a tiny minority are extremist bigots out to get Muslims. But they are worried by what they see on the news, by all those horrific attacks here and around the world, and let's face it, the volume of hatred and incitement coming from the Muslim countries is truly frightful. Sadly, large areas of the Islamic world are being torn apart by sectarian violence, violence which is directed at people of all faiths, but particularly at minorites. Anyone who who cares about human rights should be concerned, and should demand reform now. As painful as it is to admit, there are far too many Muslims who adhere to every element of Sharia, no matter how anachronistic or inhumane it may be. Should cartoonists really be murdered for blasphemy, or rape victims be accused of adultery and punished? And what's even worse, so many Muslims want to impose this system, raw and uncut, on the modern world, and are even willing to kill for it. Let's bravely oppose that agenda, because we put American, and civilized, values first, whether we are Muslim or not. These things are difficult for me to say, but I would gladly sacrifice my popularity for the sake of the welfare of the Muslim people, for the sake of all Americans, and for the truths that a President must tell.
