Islam is irksome; but the West has already conquered the whole worldReader comment on item: Another Voice Predicting Islamism's Doom Submitted by Michael S (United States), Jul 20, 2016 at 11:08 Hi, Lynn. "Submitted by Lynn (United States), Jul 12, 2016 at 09:43 The brief period of time Mohammad spent trying to conquer through persuasion was just that, brief. Mohammad is the ism of Islam. In my opinion that is why many say PBUH because they hope for the brief periods of peace that the blood and suppression of men women and children satiates, until next time." This seems to be the case. I think it's safe to say, that the most influential men in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, respectively, are Moses, Jesus and Muhammed. Moses was not a great promoter of proselytism; rather, he taught the Jews how to take and keep the land God had deeded to them. Jesus told his followers to go into all the world, preaching the "good news" (gospel) of the Kingdom of God -- a kingdom he described as "within you" and "not of this world('s political order)". Muhammed instructed his followers to conquer the world. No matter what the "fathers" of these religions taught, as a fine-tuning of the above, this is the central teaching of each faith. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that of the three "Abrahamic" faiths, only Islam poses a military threat to the world. I think most people are confused, by the fact that "Western Civilization" is very militaristic, and very successful militarily. That is because "Christendom" -- which includes many Great Powers such as the US, Britain and France, is built upon not just Christian teaching but also upon the Pagan foundation that preceded the spread of the gospel. "Christians" tend, as a whole, to be very patriotic and very militaristic; but they were not taught to be so by Jesus. Even as Jesus taught, the pagan Roman Empire was the most powerful that mankind had seen up to its day (The Chinese Han Empire came in as a close second). While the US and its allies received their holy book from the Jews, they also inherited much from the Romans and other Pagans: Their alphabet, much of their language, the days of the week and months of the year -- indeed, the calendar itself; the foundation of their legal system, their science and its terminology; their architecture, and much of their political system. This is much of who we are; but we did not learn to be this way from the Bible; in fact, the Bible depicts the western world as "the beast", the enemy of the Jews and of the church. As Walt Kelly's cartoon character, Pogo, said, "We have met the enemy, and he is us!" Islam is a continual irritant. Like the Biblical prophecy concerning Ishmael, Muhammed is the descendant of a "wild ass"; and his "hand is against every man, and every man's hand is against him". Islam is therefore capable of taking peace from the world; but it is not able to conquer it. "The West", on the other hand, has already come to rule the world. The only issue concerning it nowadays, is the intensity with which it chooses to do so. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
