In Defense of Donald TrumpReader comment on item: A Conservative in the Age of Trump Submitted by Robert (United States), Jan 17, 2017 at 12:55 I must confess first that, logically I was not moved to support Donald Trump for POTUS. But emotionally, I had the exact opposite reaction. And now I find that my rational sides has, and continues to affirm, my gut feelings of liking Donald. A very close look at the private life of Donald shows him to be in many ways a very nice man whom any working man or woman, would like. But one must put aside the Public Persona that has been created by the so-called Media. First of all, one can see that he was an excellent father, adored by his oldest daughter who herself has established a Home and a Job for herself consistent with American Values. Although he has divorced twice, he is on good terms with his x-wives, and maintains a good family relationship without any scandal. As a man, he has expressed the obvious - if you're a Billionaire you probably have more liberties with women than otherwise; so if you're not a Billionaire male you'd be advised to keep your hands much closer to your pockets or in them for restraint purposes. But Donald is also the victim of man-hating (some) feminists. He is honest about manly inclinations; that does not mean he recommends harassment, violence, or unwelcome physical contact with a member of an other. What works for Donald may not work for the Average Joe, especially if he's unemployed. Donald is also known for his Loyalty. He does not ostracize a friend because of public scandal; he maintains such friendships; naming his personal airplane Tyson One is an example. Donald Trump is also not a Racist at all, if one examines his personal friendships. He always befriended Celebrities, and Color was never a discriminating quality for being a friend. Success was what Donald always appreciated - success in any endeavor. That's one aspect of Donald's friendship with fellow "hair-due-freak," Donald King, the Ringmaster of Heavyweight Boxing. Donald recognizes a special talent of his - that of recognizing excellence in others. That's why he will make a great President. He will look for people better than himself for cabinet posts; as he already has done. And he will listen closely to his advisers to convince him of Strategy and Policy - partly because he hasn't any - except "To Make America Great Again." He also knows of the loyalty, devotion, and smartness of his Daughter Ivanka, and his Son-In-Law (her husband) Jarred Kushner. These are perhaps the most important people in his private life who will probably be advising him on any critical issues as the President of the United States. So Donald's character and future behavior is most likely to be reflected in their lives and activities. Ivanka is vocal on issues involving Girls and Women, as well as family life and religious practice at home. Jarred, on the other hand, has been a loyal and honoring son to his own father, in spite of the fact that his father was convicted of federal crimes; he has practiced the Jewish mandate of honoring your father and mother under obviously the most difficult of circumstances. As President Obama is pardoning convicted criminals of non-violent crimes, that may be an important character trait to use as an example when these former criminals re-enter society and begin looking for gainful legal employment. Donald Trump is a Media Genius. To understand him one needs to study both Andy Warhol and Marshall McLuhan - especially the latter's "The Medium is the Message." He is, inter alia, the master of the Sound Byte before Twitter was ever born. Anyone, like you, Dr. Daniel Pipes, who looks for consistency, or for meaning, or policy, into his one-liners, is bound to be confused, disappointed, confounded, and even outraged. Donald's utterances, spoken or written, are designed for visceral response, and not for a Brain like you, or an Intellectual Nerd of the Liberal or Marxist Left. It is designed rather for the Rust Belt, unemployed, college-drop out, Rust Belt resident. This includes the fellow Truck Drivers in New York City who will whistle at a woman walking on the side walk and conspicuously attracting the attention of the Hard Hatter. And that, of course, may be Politically Incorrect, though it still remains an American activity that hasn't yet been fully sublimated - and that's one aspect of Donald Trump's honest "in your face" behavior which many men or women found sufficiently attractive to vote him into the White House. And if Cloths make the Man, will the White House actually make Donald Trump a better human being? I think so.
