Russia, in someways, is Better than Biden for Israe.Reader comment on item: Pushing for an Israeli Victory Is the Only Way to End the Conflict with the Palestinians Submitted by Robert (United States), Jun 29, 2021 at 22:38 Dear M Tovey, I don't think that Middle East has ever been as complicated as it is now. And here I think you overlook the benefits of Russia's relation with Israel. Russia is not an ally of Iran. Quite the contrary; it is its competitor, as it is with Turkey. When Russia was the Soviet Union it was an ally of Nasser's Egypt, and Egypt was extremely close to Syria when both formed the United Arab Republic. In those days the Soviet Union was competing with the USA in the Cold War, and Syria was a part of its Sphere of Influence. Russia has a Port in Syria which gives its Navy access to the Mediterranean Sea. Now that Russia, thru air-power saved Assad from a military defeat in the Arab Spring Civil War, it wants to make money by rebuilding war-devastated Syria. And in this regard, it is competing with Iran and Turkey. And all this is good for Israel. Israel has about 1,000,000 Russian-Speaking Israeli Secular Jews, and Putin "loves" them as effectively "ethnic Russians"; Putin is very close to the Chief Rabbi of Russia, and Putin does not tolerate any Antisemitism in Russia. So you see, M Tovey, things are far better for Israel than it appears, if you play very close attention to all the details, and all the Players in the Complex Drama now unfolding in the Middle East. Even Biden is slightly withdrawing from reviving the deal with Iran from which Trump withdrew the USA.
