Western model of modernity works just fineReader comment on item: Israeli Victory, Palestinian Prosperity Submitted by Prashant (United States), Jul 24, 2021 at 14:11 Dear Dr Pipes, Debanjan Banerjee comes up an even more outlandish hypothesis: he says that the western model of modernity does not work in the Islamic context and since Israel is founded on western modernity, it does not fit well in the ME. You (Dr Pipes) can choose to either ignore DB's hypothesis or address it but I want to tell Mr Banerjee that: 1. Western model of modernity is just fine and that is why the entire world is adopting it and people are dying to migrate to the western nations even now (including DB's friends in nations occupied by Islam are migrating to the US and Europe in droves). 2. Even if I grant that western model does not work in Muslim context, I will rather change the Muslim context and not the western model. What is there worth following in violence, imposition of religion on people by dictators, subjugation of other nations, forced conversions, naqabs, suppression of thought, and in following a book that you can neither change, nor translate, nor criticize, nor interpret. Sorry, Mr Banerjee, Islam epitomizes all of these negatives. Wow, for DB's benefit, I just made a small effort toward changing the Islamic context. I hope he took a note of it.
