Brick by brick, pulling down the multi-cultural dream in the Netherlands..Reader comment on item: Western Civilization on Trial: Why We Should Be Watching Geert Wilders Submitted by Charles (Netherlands), Feb 17, 2010 at 16:13 Hi again PeedoubleU. I see you keep on coming back for more! It has a headbanging-quality about it.. As you very well know, art 137 is part of the penal code, and is not constitutional law. My concern is with the Dutch constitution and its basic fundamental values. The use of the penal code against Mr Wilders is nothing short of ridiculous, plain and simple. Some would say infamous, outragous and/or disgraceful. And dangerous I would add. We all know that it all comes down to the hyper-sensitiveness regarding criticizing Islam and everything that comes with it. If Mr Wilders would have spoken on Christianity in such fashion, nothing would have come of it ofcourse. As it stands now, muslim-radicals, along with some leftish-loonies, are just looking to see how far they can take this. I would agree with you, that under normal circumstances, this court-case would be laughed out of court, and Mr Wilders would walk out all smiles, but that's just the point I am trying to make. These are NOT normal circumstances and the Netherlands are far removed from being a normal functioning democracy at the moment, although you seem to think otherwise. The last 10 years (at least) have seen this country slide down a slippery road of politcical correctness which has stifled all discent and critical opinion on a scale never seen before in the Netherlands, short of WW2. It sounds fantastic ofcourse, because comparing a nazi-state to the post-war Netherlands should be to ridiculous to contemplate, but, I persist in my opinion on this. It has most certainly had the same effect on mainstream public opinion, if one studies the longterm effects on Dutch society. Then again, one can all laugh it all away, marginalyzing all critique. A potent tactic used to perfection by the ruling elite in the Netherlands after all. It all comes down to the multi-cultural idea ofcourse, and the damage this ideology has caused Dutch society. This idea that all cultures are equal, and that all have an equal say in a multi-ethnic arrangement has never been proved anywhere in the world. There is not one country on the planet which adheres this kind of society. Multi-ethnic yes, but multi-cultural is in every sense complete and total nonsens ofcourse. Still, it has taken root in this country, and with great distress for all I might say. I myself have a pretty mixed background, having lived in different parts of the world, and being of a family which has lived a.o. in America, Indonesia, Turkey, Germany, France and Canada, and I can most certainly testify to the fact that nowhere multi-culturalisme has found a home in these countries. Shure, many ethnic groups are represented, but all counties adhere to a mono-cultural identity. At least they try! We all begin to see the ramifications now, that it all has been one big lie really, attempting to impose top-down some sort of rainbow-world-idea on a society which has backfired to this day. We all can see that the fibers of western society are slowly being destroyed around us. We can see the chaos mounting, the violence increasing, the anger growing. It is all plain to see. In all of Europe. For the Dutch, the cause of this, is not the repatriation of former colonial Dutch East-Indies citizens, who came back in the fifties after the independance of Indonesia, or the move of many citizens from the former Dutch colony of Surinam in the seventies, or even the problems we now encounter with some inhabitants of Dutch overseas territories since the nineties. No, the enormous problems Dutch society faces has to do with muslim immigrants from poor islamic countries, notably Morocco, Turkey, Somalia, Iraq and a string of other islamic countries. The enormous problems Dutch society faces in the 21st century, is the muslim mass-immigration. The Islam is at the core of this problem because of its deep cultural and religious roots which have been underestimated, overlooked if not totally disgarded by the multi-cultural elites in political and academic circles. This is what Mr Wilders has pointed out in his hard and biting comments in the Dutch parlement. This is one of the reasons he was elected and this why his electoral following is growing everyday. And at this point in time, this courtcase is the only answer the state has in trying to silence him. A shameful experience in every sense of the word. We will witness if freedom of thought and speech still has meaning in the Netherlands. Only a complete and irrefutable acquittal of Mr Wilders will prove that. Anything less will mean a bitter and sad devaluation of our basic freedoms. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
