Addendum IIReader comment on item: Panetta Predicts an Israeli Strike on Iran Submitted by Michel C. Zala (Switzerland), Feb 26, 2012 at 12:05 Addendum II One other scenario comes to mind as some form of scenario 1, subscenario 1. ISR could, a few days before the strike, issue a clear ultimatum and announcement of the forthcoming strike utilizing tactical nukes, in order to give the civilian population time to leave the outlined areas. This could limit the resulting collateral damage, however may well endanger the overall operation. Using tactical nukes, the ex'pected fall out will prevent Iranians from entering those areas for the foreseeable future, even though some of the deeply buried installations may not even be fully destroyed, thus in fact stopping the further development alltoghether. I know that that would be a "cynical" scenario, deeply resented by world opinion and of course all muslims. Albeit, if the conditions of the ultimatum are clearly stated insofar, as nothing but immediate and utter abandonment of their nuclear weapons development and immediate, full access and control by the IAEA/UN would arrest further escalation, in some way the ball could be placed back again in the Iranian field. Their decision and any consequences for non-compliance 'd be placed squarely on the shoulders of the Ayatollahs. ISR must make it clear to the world, that they do not want a war, but, by simple crisis mechanism, they would be forced into it, should Iran pursue their ambitions. As only few grasp the dire dilemma ISR is faced with, as few understand the lack of room for compromise and maneouvering, someone needs to explain it to the world in simple and understandable terms. Now. Netanyahu, a gifted speaker, must give a well publicized speech to that fact, not leaving any more doubt or room for interpretation soon. Quite actually, the more I think about it, this will likely be, what he will do. I think that this time around we all will know ahead of time, when this newest conflict will begin. It may not help much in terms of world opinion, however, especially, if they use ballistic missiles, it is the right (humane) thing to do, and if the Iranian Gov hinders the civilian population from leaving, it will be them responsible for untold deaths.
