An obsession that makes one miss the forest for the trees but harkens back to historyReader comment on item: Explaining Obama's Fixation with Israel: Linkage Submitted by PezDispenser (Israel), Mar 20, 2013 at 03:37 I'm not a historian, but I can't help seeing a common thread in history: First, Jews were seen as a religious and social "problem" needing to be solved by conversion or second-class citizenship and ghettoization; later Jews were seen as subhuman and a threat needing to be solved by genocide, and these days the Jewish country is seen as the epicenter of all the world's problems which must be solved at a significant risk to her inhabitants that no other Western country would accept if they were in Israel's position. It seems that the old irrationalities of the West in regards to Jews never completely went away at the highest levels of power, but now that there is an Israel, those illogical ideas can be channeled and acted upon in a politically correct way even though this means a complete misreading of the geopolitical map.
