Getting the Fixation RightReader comment on item: Explaining Obama's Fixation with Israel: Linkage Submitted by Ron Thompson (Germany), Mar 22, 2013 at 05:21 I'm not sure it's such a mystery if one goes back to the analogy of the high school bully. If the bully goes after an average student of only moderate (which is to say pathetic) courage, what does the picked-on student do? Of course he turns around and punches someone weaker than him, and feels a bonus in the deed if the weaker one is the class nerd whose grades have always made him feel ashamed and inadequate. And so we have the same here. And even though the class nerd of centuries past has extremely upgraded himself in terms of self-defense, he still looks tiny in relation to the huge and dumb but ranting bullies around him throwing punches in all directions. And so why wouldn't the average student, usually an earnest milquetoast at heart, turn on him rather than the gang of bullies surrounding him and trying to pound him. But it's a little more complicated than that. For even the normal tough guys, willing to stand up to bullies, they aren't totally immune to intimidation if the bullies are loud enough, hysterical enough, and violent enough.. And so while they criticize the milquetoast they still don't go all the way and say, Not only is the nerd (Israel) NOT the core problem of the Middle East, but the bullies (read Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims, Islam) ARE the problem). Somehow even the stoutest and most consistent critics of the fixation on Israel by the hordes of milquetoasts do not simply reverse the proposition and name those who are the center of the problem, all those Muslims who act according to the Bullies Creed which they live by, namely, Islam. Until this final step is taken, I see no reason for the wrong fixation to end and the right put in its place. Ron Thompson.
