Sounds plausibleReader comment on item: Egypt after Morsi: Joy and Worry Submitted by Anon (United States), Jul 4, 2013 at 19:39 Those are great points Professor Pipes. I very much fear that you are spot on.. and we will see the same movie again. It could also be the case that most of the anger demonstrated against the Brotherhood in the last few days was driven by poor economic conditions rather than any distaste for Islamism. Moreover - and this is the key - the protesters are most likely NOT demanding a Western style constitution, secular laws and the establishment of a vibrant free market. Without these three essential ingredients it does not matter who comes to power or how many free and fair elections there are in Egypt. Even if these ingredients were to magically come into place today, it would still be a good 2-3 yrs before Egypt would see the desired results. And in the interim Egyptians might not have sufficient patience or faith to stay the course. All these troubled Arab countries need a Lee Kuan Yee ( the legendary Singaporean premier) for a decade. I still believe the only country in the region that is on the right course for now is Iran.
