Peace to JerusalemReader comment on item: How Israel Might Destroy Iran's Nuclear Program Submitted by Michael S (United States), Jul 16, 2015 at 15:54 Hello, Daniel I can think of many, many times over the past ten years, when it would have been the "perfect moment" to strike Iran. Of all the moments during that time, now is probably the worst: The military advantage would be practically nil, and the political fallout would be horrendous. You and I and many others agree that Obama's deal with Tehran is bad, and that the Iranians cannot be trusted to comply in critical areas. There is one wonderful part of the deal, though: Israel is absolved from any involvement in it, and free from any American-imposed "strings". Israel can now actually count on the fact that the US will come down against it, if and when Israel attacks Iran; and can simply figure that into its calculations. Actual fear of US reprisals no longer figure into anyone's calculations about anything, and this should be the case with Israeli concern about us as well. Israel should attack Iran, in a preemptive strike, when Israel decides that the Iranians are in a position to imminently attack it. With Iran's borders and economy flung open, it should be easier than ever to determine this. Also, in the dire circumstances that will surround that occasion, Israel shouldn't play around: The attack should be nuclear. The US will be frantic! Democrats will be pulling out their hair! They will jump! They will scream! They will say "Naughty, naughty, naughty, naughty! many, many times over! ...and they will do nothing. That's the simple beauty of it all. Meanwhile, the Iranians, Americans and everyone have enough rope to hang themselves and one another. If Binyamin Netanyahu is clever, which I think he is, he will simply protest now and then, and go on to let them do their own thing. The Iranian leaders are convinced that the chance of an Israeli attack is zero. I agree with them. What now? Since Israel was never a threat to them in the first place, this should have zero impact on their foreign policy. ISIS will still be active, and cunningly tying them up in Syria, Iraq and even Tehran -- not to mention Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. The Saudis will be plodding along, producing their own nuclear program. Perhaps even the Emiratis will do the same. The world will not stand still for Iran, just because the US has abandoned Israel: They live in a real world and have real world enemies. If Israel is wise, they'll get out their singers and instruments, and begin praising their God. Peace be within thee, O Jerusalem.
