Precedents to the current situationReader comment on item: How Israel Might Destroy Iran's Nuclear Program Submitted by Michael S (United States), Oct 19, 2015 at 03:53 Hi, Charles. There is actually precedent for everything happening in the Middle East. A few examples: Obama's disengagement from world leadership: Gerald Ford abandoned former ally South Vietnam in April, 1975. The result was similar to what we see now: diminishing US prestige worldwide, coupled with Russian (the Soviet) adventurism in Afghanistan. Russia teaming up with Iran, Iraq and Syria. This alliance was vividly in evidence, when the Russians fired cruise missiles from ships in the Caspian Sea, overflying all the above countries. He did this to circumbent NATO in Bulgaria and Turkey; but in so doing, he extended influence in the Middle East in a way similar to what the Mongols did in the 13th century. The US trapped in "Dante's Inferno": We have been moving into perdition for some time, beginning long before Obama took office; and I dare say, our slide will continue during the next administration as well. We seem to be trying to emulate the morality of Sodom and Gomorrah. Good things do not happen to societies that do such things.
