The notion of palestinians willingly leaving is ludicrous

Given your razor sharp analysis of many facets of the conflict, I am disappointed by your (not to mention Mr Sherman's) lack of understanding that Palestinians will never agree to leave in exchange for money.

Well, some of them may, but they will never form a critical mass. The nationalism that you did mention is one reason, but the main, unbreakable reason is as follows: Palestinians are forever ruled by a violent minority that resolves such issues through MURDER. This is part of their culture. People who agree to get paid and leave are as good as DEAD, and so are their families.
