Anti-Colonialism & the 1947-1948 Israeli Civil WarReader comment on item: Achieving Israel Victory with Martin Sherman Submitted by Robert (United States), Feb 6, 2020 at 05:29 Before 1948 Israeli Jews war fight Colonial Britaint in Mandatory Palestine. This phase was not yet a technically a "civil war" because there was no "state" other than Britain in Palestine. But once Israel declared Statehood in 1948, and the Arabs didn't, while Britain simply abandoned Mandatory Palestine and turned to the UN, the Arabs "rebels" fought Israel with the assistance of Arab foreign powers. Modern International Law (UN based) recognizes civil wars as the internal affairs of the state within which it occurs. So Israelis and Palestinians within their turf - Mandatory Palestine - must come to terms on their own without foreign military interference - except for dealing with the State of Israel; no foreign power can supersede the will of the democratic republic of Israel in its sovereign exercise of its powers in dealing with the indigenous Palestinian Arabs refusing to negotiate with Israel.
