Victory needs to be righteous

Dear Dr Pipes,

I think victory alone is not enough. The war won should be righteous and honorable.

We will not be too fond of a victory if the Muslims defeat Israel. The entire history of Islam is full of brutal tyrants vanquishing innocent people. Likewise, a Russian vectory over Ukraine, if it happens, will not make us happy.

But, I agree with you that Gandhi-esque insistence on avoiding violence at all costs is not right when the world is full of selfish and thoughtless tyrants. Violence must never be the first option but it surely should not be ruled out as the last option.
