Updates on Victory (Israel)Reader comment on item: Victory – An Obsolete Concept? Submitted by Robert (United States), Sep 26, 2022 at 18:55 Dear Dr. Daniel Pipes, I am no expert on your ideology regarding regarding the Middle East. Rather I discovered that i agreed with most of your views on the subject as well as your expertise on Islam as well as Islamism, especial after Bernard Lewis was no longer alive and Edward Said's Islamism to over the American academy. Perhaps you recall, one of the few issues that I was confused about is your use of the term Victory, whether you used it literally or metaphorically. In that regard, as in all, wars rather than struggle, the military "front" has to identified. And there was non regarding Israel that you or I identified. I understand you now much better mostly because historical conditions have ripened and you wrote a "pamphlet" on Victory recently elsewhere. Now to my specific question regarding your blog here. In all you articled posted, You added, dated, new facts and views that support your position. However, at some point you decide to call these entries at the bottom "UPDATES." So may question is simply to explain this difference? For me your term has switched to it's military sense after Russia invaded Ukraine because it signal the possible end of the current "war between wars." And that requires one to identify the (military) enemies. In that regard I would now say that the enemies, or enemy, is most of the hole world as reflected in the votes by the member states in the General Assembly of the UN (not the Security Council. Further, the actual Military Fronts need to be identified, and Israel's strategic and immediate military enemies are not necessarily on its Borders or Armistice Lines. For example, strategically speaking, Iran is Israel's greatest enemy; surprising, militarily speaking, the semi-stateless Palestinians are not even close. Next is Syria, .... I now stop (arbitrarily). And, I wish return to my question about your "updates." I am simply directing attention to when and where you issued your 1st update here: May 20, 2019 update: Walter Russell Mead writes in "Palestinians Need to Get Real About Israel": Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
