"Liberal Islamism" is an oxymoron.

In re your dialogue with McCarthy, who is one smart guy, it might be useful to differentiate, with my late beloved teacher and friend Barry Rubin, between the dogmatic Islamists, who want to do everything as fast and as cruelly as possible, with no regard for the results, and the more pragmatic Islamists, who go along step by step, using democratic rights and procedures to destroy democratic rights and procedures, thereby achieving gradually the same vicious dictatorship that the other nasties want immediately.

s liberal, democratic Islamism still Islamism? Do women suddenly get to inherit? Do we dirty dhimmis get to run for Calif? Could JFK have been the first Irish Roman Catholic Calif? How about Hillary for Califette?

Sharia is still sharia, and liberal Islamism remains an oxymoron.
