Islam and changeReader comment on item: Islamism's Trajectory Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jun 1, 2014 at 07:14 ECAW wrote But with the Muslim population, in Britain at least, doubling every 20 years how long have we got to find out whether Islam can evolve or not? I do not believe that Islam can change and I will give you a simple example here and that is the doctrine of abrogation. Muslims tell us that the sword verse abrogates the no compulsion of religion verse and this is supported by massive literary evidence from the Islamic tradition in the past 1400 years. Now if Muslims tell us that it is the no compulsion in religion verse is the one that abrogates the sword verse then we have major theological problems 1. It would mean that the Quranic exegesis by the likes of al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir and al-Qurtubi is of no value 2. It means that Muslims do not really know what the Qur'an is really saying 3. It would also mean that the Qur'an must be a book that was written at a point in time after all who are those mushrikeen in the sword verse and if they are the pagans of Mecca indeed then the Qur'an is really about 7th century Arabia and no more 4. It would also mean that the doctrine that the Qur'an is eternal and preserved in al-Lawh al-Mahfouz or the protected tablet is flawed So you see this is all beyond change Where does Dr Pipes stand on the crucial matter of immigration, as highlighted by Mark Steyn You have to ask him however if you ask me my answer would be we here in the US welcome immigrants as long as they respect our laws Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
