Being technical about democracyReader comment on item: Islamism's Trajectory Submitted by Frankz (United Kingdom), May 31, 2014 at 17:31 Democracy is a flexible concept but not necessarily so flexible in real world application over the long term. In any case what movements there have been towards it in the Islamic world are primarily based on emulation of successful Western examples. These examples are no longer so successful or even dominant with the emergence of models such as China. Such models are unlikely to be much more successful imports in any case. In other words, Erdogan is forever. "Andy has not yet come to conclusion but I suspect he eventually will" - Well possibly he may need to whether it is true or not. "Some are truly political" - The lines between political expediency and force are blurred at best. How anyone can be convinced of anything in this regard is beyond me. Western states should not go haring after Islamic movements. Unfortunately this is almost certainly what they will do given false hope. That already exists in abundance.
