How Islamic Are Muslims?Reader comment on item: How Islamic Are Muslims? Submitted by Judith (United States), Jul 28, 2014 at 11:31 This is a very interesting article. Islamic doctrine seems to direct people to a world of group think with the added responsibility to adhere to and to not question their leaders. I've never found a passage in any Islamic doctrine that celebrates the individual or personal accomplishment. It appears the top ten countries who follow Islamic principles that are in fact as you put it "conductive to successful living" are not plagued with constant conflict. Certainly war-like jihad against your neighbors or fellow citizens leaves little time to develop a Silicon Valley or to find a cure for diseases that plague mankind. These ten countries as you say, do not have a Muslim majority so there are no leaders challenging the indigenous natives' way of life, and in these countries most people are pretty equal economically. In the more militant countries and regions this is not the case. Leaders get very rich while the people stay poor and are easily swayed into violence and blaming others for their woes, except of course their leaders, many of whom they worship or fear. The many faces of Islam and its people I believe make you both right in several ways. Islamism and Communism give a few people way too much power. Perhaps we should take away their pens and cell phones and tell those leaders (teachers) to "leave those kids alone." Thank you Pink Floyd. The doctrine of the Koran is all over the place. The Constitution of the United States is very clear. The Ten Commandments are very clear. They both serve Muslim people well. There are few Muslim majority regions that are not in conflict. You are very right - interpretation is key to application! Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
