The failure of Islamic rule

This article by Pipes is quite excellent and I recommend it as essential reading. I want to add another layer to this narrative. The Muslim world's achilles heel, in addition to those mentioned by Pipes also includes the multiple layers of both sectarianism and the allegiance to tribal and clan relations which makes following a central govt. authority almost an impossibility. And the central governments are themselves riven by the same divisions as well as massive corruption. It is no wonder they have been failures and this will not change any time soon.
