A slippery incline

If the koran does advocate for jihad contrary to the re-interpretation of moderate western muslims, isn't it more in keeping with their stated objective of peaceful co-existence and certainly more intellectually honest to admit the violent nature of the koranic teaching toward all BUT the most fundamental adherents?

The very best place to encourage and facilitate this movement is in the west where muslim people would likely have the total support of their neighbours and the world wide benefits that such a brave and noble stand can effect for humanity in general are enormous. It would be more possible for american muslims to completely turn away from the koran and its violent teachings as an act of radical spiritual integrity with all its attendant blessings than to expect re-interpretation is going to gain any traction...anywhere.
