I am in Australia, this is the second article I have found relating to how the left - right wing thing is becoming a thing of the past. The linear model is dated that's why elections are so close these days, the results are determined by swinging voters. Your article is very timely and relevent and show the the extremes of the left and the right are so close together and switch positions at will depending on where they see the votes are.
I have thoughts on alternative model should anyone wish to discuss this further. I agree with you saying the journailsts are lazy in their idealogicla descriptions. Maybe they are as confused as the voters
