Didn't Emmanuel Macron reach out to the Catholic Church and make some positive comments just now?Reader comment on item: The Rise of Western Civilizationism Submitted by Dong (Canada), Apr 15, 2018 at 15:50 ... And cue the Twitterati being outraged about demolition of the separation of Church and State. The same Twitterati that swooned over Western leaders fawning over Muslim congregations. But Macron knows that his political bread is no longer buttered by them. Who are they going to vote for anyways, FN? It really does seem that Western leaders are tacking towards a bit more of "Western civilizationism", as you put it. Even Trump is doing it, in his crude, ineffectual way. Westerners didn't really have to care about their civilizational identity when the West was almighty and powerful. In this uncertain day and age, with credible centres of global power outside of the West, not so much.
