Almost all of this unholy mess can be described as the result of virtue signalling

It is by supporting mass-immigration that people signalled their virtuous, anti-racist credentials, which also led to extremism, in that the more fanatic one was, the more virtuous he appeared. Anyone who would speak against it was -as a knee-jerk reaction - described by some as 'far-right' or 'racist' and then people might well believe that's what he was. This virtue-signalling meant no one could think about the long-term consequences, and anyone who did, like Enoch Powell, learned to shut up.
What chance is there for reason when people desperately crave to avoid being unfairly criticized and let virtue-signaling lead to growing extremism?
