Our dear Barbaric Pagan and his/her history lesson for today!Reader comment on item: Hungary: Not "Submitting to Islam" Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Aug 28, 2018 at 07:34 Our dear BP says: >Broadly agree with the sentiments. However the "Christian foundations" notion is unfortunately a backward step albeit a smaller one than the Islamic alternative. Oh boys and girls we have a scholar here! >The West's greatness rests on a solid foundation of science secularism, reason and the like and not Christianity. The West greatness rests on the real foundation of the Western civilization and this foundation includes: Greek learning, Roman civilization, no doubt the Judeo-Christian heritage and the historical links between the Hellenized East (as you shall see below) and Europe and thank the Gods (pl) it has nothing to do with Islam. Oh and "reason" and "secularism" they are the by-products of this foundation Did you get this one our dear BP? Our spoken languages as well as the arts, music and literature are very much influenced by Judeo-Christian tradition, the likes "i'm my brother's keeper", "The Golden Rule", "Render Unto Caesar what is Caesar", "the salt of the earth" just to name a few. Can you imagine the West without the inspiring beauty of Sistine Chapel or Hagia Sophia or even St Patrick in NYC Is the God of Christianity is the true God? Who cares! but the West gained so much from its Christian Heritage not unlike today's Egypt that gained so much from its ancient Egyptian religions So stop living in a bubble our dear BP! > Christianity was an accident which had no positive role to play in all of the incredible achievements of mankind that have emanated from Western societies. Prove it. The following will not be accepted as evidence: I'm waiting >The better alternative is to lean anti religion and be more secular. The West believes in freedom of religion including being a non believer! Did you get this one our dear BP who likes to sound like a "barbaric pagan fundamentalist"? >Many secular and tolerant values have also emanated from the West and it needs to be celebrated more than the dubious Christian values being pedaled by right wing politicians in Europe. Prove it! For the readers: This is beyond our dear BP silly rantings: And this is a very brief introduction to the transmission of the Greek learning, for which much of the credit must go to Christians and Christianity In Arabic and therefore Islam the word عِلمْ or 'Elm means knowledge and in Syriac it is ܐܳܝܠܡ or knowledge/science. To Muslims it also became knowledge/science. However, in Islam the science and knowledge becomes "to study what is in the books of Islam" It has nothing to do with secular science. There is a famous Islamic tradition where Omar is quoted as saying, and I'm paraphrasing, burn books (of the Greeks) if they contradict what is in the book of Allah, and burn the books (of Greek learning) if they deal with subjects already present in the book of Allah. This is really why Islam differs very much from Christianity So what happened to the books of the Greeks? They were translated in Baghdad by Nestorians (Syriac Christians) to Syriac and then to Arabic and therefore saved so much of European as well as the heritage of the pre-Islamic Hellenized Middle East. Also Christian Monks in the Byzantine Empire collected and saved many ancient manuscripts and then the barbarian Turks arrived and we know what happened! Now let us move west to Spain. It was the Jews that translated the Arabic translations from Baghdad to Catalan and Christian Monks translated these books to Latin and now Europe regained its pre-Islamic literary heritage And the above is a very very short introduction! No doubt that it was Christians that saved these great treasures of the ancients Yes it could have been any other religion (except Islam) Nonetheless we owe so much to the efforts by Christians and therefore to Christianity for linking the West with its past Islam is the cause of Europe's dark ages! (Gasp) It was not Christianity Now I'm curious: Are you another Muslim in Taqiyya or are you just and you must pardon me ignorant?
