Check your facts!Reader comment on item: Europe is Finished, Predicts Mark Steyn Submitted by Noah Wilk (United States), Nov 24, 2006 at 01:27 Faqi, I simply have to correct some of your erroneous assumptions, because many of them seem to emanate from the propaganda that's been fed to the masses via the liberal media. You wrote: "During my stays I have noticed that in the West coast , East coast and the South Western States, that all the menial labor & semi skilled labor that the average "white" does not want to do. e.g. garbage collection, the restaurant industry, hotel industry, Hospitals, landscaping & gardening, most building trades, delivery, road works etc., employs over 90% Mexcians. If they are not needed as you say, they will not come." My response has to cover several things at once. First, your visits cannot possibly give you a clear picture of what's actually going on. One person once in awhile simply cannot see the big picture. Second, I question your 90% number...where did you get this from? The numbers I get from the Census 2000 Supplemental Survey states that Mexican immigrants account for just 33.8% of the agricultural industry, for example. "They fill a need, I think there was a film recently - "The day the mexcians left" . Everything came to a standstill, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, landscaping, building trade, road works , garbage collection, maids, cleaning ladies , farming - picking friuit and vegetables etc." A pro-illegal alien propaganda film, no doubt. Because they don't account for enough to grind everything to a halt. In reality, if we just got rid of the illegal aliens (which is what we're really talking about) for a day, it would be very positive. Gang membership would drop by 50% that day, Southwestern hospitals would see 20% fewer patients, in the Four Corners area methamphetamine use would drop 90%, in the state of Colorado alone taxpayers would save $3 MILLION in services that illegals usually eat up. It's just not politcally correct to look at the bright side. "So your contention that they are all criminals is very unjust and inocrrect." Every single one of them who comes across the border ILLEGALLY is by definition a CRIMINAL. On top of that, a large number of them end up commiting crimes here as many of them are already criminals, gang bangers, and drug dealers before they even cross over. And even the ones here legally tend to fight for amnesty and appeasement for illegals, as well as lax border enforcement. "There are various studies done on Mexican immigrants on the internet, some very positive. You may need to do some research on this issue." I have done the research. Extensive research. And it's all negative. They are having a tremendous overall negative impact on all aspects of American life. Dilution of American culture, lowering of overall high school graduation rates, increased rates of unemployment, overburdening of services such as hospitals and ambulance services, a net drain on the economy to the tune of tens of billions of dollars, etc. "Its not just black and white, there are many grey areas." No, there is no gray area. There are facts and truths, and there are lies and falsehoods. People simply don't like dealing with the cold hard light of truth and reality. "The second generation of these immigrants are doing well" Wrong again. The drop out rate for Hispanic California high school students is 60%, compares to 57% for blacks and under 30% for whites. They have the highest unwed mother pregnancy rate of all the races. Second generation Mexicans are actually doing poorly. "I have heard the same type of " stuff " you stated in you post whenever I visit the US, but I also have heard the contribution that the Mexican labour has brought to the economy in variious ways" Regardless of what you've heard, I have the hard numbers to back my claims. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, for the year 2002, Mexicans constituted a net DRAIN of $10 BILLION on the American economy. They used $26.3 billion in givernment services, but paid just $16 billion in taxes. And according to the Statistical Abstract of the United States (year 2000), the net contribution to the GDP of Hispanics is a NEGATIVE $5,128 per year per capita. In other words, on average each one of them drains $5,128 per year from the economy when all is said and done. "The US population wants their produce cheap. The Mexican farm labourers fill that bill." Actually, it's US businesses who want to maximize profits who want cheap labor, not the general populace. Hiring these illegal Mexicans doesn't significantly lower the costs of goods to consumers. It lowers them by about 3/10ths of one percent. Read about it here: http://www.cis.org/articles/2001/mexico/wages.html "Mexicans are not building masjids all over the country, neither are they causing terror, nor do they have vocal 'up in your face' organizations such as CAIR, Islamic thinkers society" Actually, they have similar organizations like MEChA (Aztlan Movement) and La Raza. Both advocate anti-American sentiment, violence, and both espouse radical ideology based on revisionist history. They are ever bit the terror threat that CAIR is. "I have never seen a Mexian trampling the stars and stripes." Then you should have been watching the news this past summer. Mexican students ripped down American flags and raised Mexican flags at schools, and illegal Mexicans ripped down and burnt an American flag at a post office and raised a Mexican flag. These people are ever bit as much terrorists as the Muslims, there is no question. "99% are humble labourers, about 1% is the crimminal element which every society has." I'd love to see where you came up with those numbers, because they are astronomically inaccurate. "Many in the US fail to see that Califorina, Texas, New Mexico were part of Mexico at one time." That is not an excuse for any of their actions. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
