Who is trustworthy, and who isn't?Reader comment on item: Enjoy the Jerusalem Embassy – But Don't Get Giddy Submitted by Michael S (United States), May 18, 2018 at 05:19 Hi, Peter. Because of your first name, and because you cite the NT book of Matthew, I will guess that you are a Christian. You said, "there's no doubt in my mind, Donald Trump is a deceiver" Please let me put some doubt there, using something people seldom rely on nowadays, namely, true facts: Fact 1. Barack Obama betrayed Israel at the UN, besides, of course, lying during the election campaign about supporting Israel; yet you don't think Obama is the Antichrist. Fact 2. George W. Bush portrayed himself as a "born again Christian", and promised to relocate the embassy; yet he went back on his promise, and went further: He declared the "two state solution" to be official US policy, the first President to do so. He also said "Islam is Peace", after Islamist terrorists attacked the US; yet no Christian dared call HIM the Antichrist. Fact 3. Bill Clinton was a Southern Baptist, like Jimmy Carter, until both of them decided to rebrand the Baptists and Evangelicals as liberals. His opening act as President of the US, was to allow homosexuals into the military. He did that, right before ordering the massacre of 160 Christian women and children at Waco. During a scandal, wherein he was literally "caught with his pants down" in the White House, he too promised to move the Embassy to Jerusalem, but didn't. Yet no Christian I know dared call HIM "The Antichrist". Fact 4. George H.W. Bush, "W"'s father, will be remembered for HIS campaign promise of "READ MY LIPS. NO MORE TAXES." But of course, once in office, he raised taxes. Nobody suspected him of being the Antichrist. I'll give Reagan a pass, in part because he probably resembles Donald J. Trump more than any other President. Let's go on to: Fact 5. President Trump has spent his first 16 months in office, carrying out all the promises made by Candidate Trump. Yet both you and Daniel Pipes think he will betray Israel. What am I missing here? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
